Hi. I'm Tom. I grew up in the Surrey hills and now I live in Bristol, where I work as an arts producer. I share my time between a number of ongoing collaborations, which you can find out more about here.
I also occasionally work on one-off projects as a producer, mentor, writer, director or general outside eye. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
Terrestrial produces socially engaged arts projects, community events and wild adventures in the south west of England. We are currently based in Weston-super-Mare, where we're supporting a series of projects - each created by an innovative artist and a local community group working together over the course of a year.
Spy Adventures Maverick theatre duo Nigel Barrett & Louise Mari have been working with 500 children from across 8 primary schools in Weston to create a mystery adventure. Will our undercover agents save Weston from ‘The Raven’?
Voices of Worle Over the course of this year, a group of Worle residents are collaborating with filmmaker Adam Laity and composer Verity Standen to record personal histories, and create a film that offers a unique perspective on the local area.
Creative Sessions Dance artists Clare Reynolds (Restoke) and Ania Varez (Interval) are offering weekly workshops on Thursday afternoons, open to all but particularly aimed at anyone with experience of addiction/recovery - in partnership with local charity Addaction.
Guerrilla Media Unit The Guerrilla Media Unit is a group of artists, facilitated by theatre director and BBC radio producer John Norton, gathered together to create original myths using contemporary media. The unit is currently working on a wild documentary, in collaboration with fisherfolk, sea swimmers, local historians and more…
Weston Artspace And we have taken over a shop on Weston-super-Mare's High Street. Weston Artspace is a studio, meeting place, workshop venue and hub for sharing skills and ideas. Anyone is welcome to become a member and use the space.
Verity Standen is a Bristol-based composer, performer and musical director. Her work explores the human voice and how it can be celebrated and transformed through live performance. Verity has, I think, a unique ability to galvanise people through song - whether it's a rousing pop-up choir session for people with no experience of singing or an intricate rehearsal with a professional ensemble, she fills the process with warmth and humanity.
I produce all of Verity's work (currently in partnership with MAYK), which includes research and development, fundraising, tour booking and company management. To date, this has included the development and UK touring of the a cappella trio piece Mmm Hmmm(which has played everywhere from the National Theatre's Riverstage to village halls in the Outer Hebrides); the creation of Symphony - a piece for individual audience members (commissioned by The Yard Theatre for an underpass in London's Olympic Park); Refrain - a major commission from Situations for sites with a historic connection to conscientious objection; the premiere of Undersong - a live surround-sound choral concert; and the ongoing management of Verity's choral piece HUG, for which we recruit a new community choir (so far the we've worked with singers in Poland, China, Belgium and the Czech Republic as well as around the UK).
Undersongwill tour from early 2020, and we continue to explore opportunities for HUG. Please get in touch if you're interested in booking Verity's work. veritystanden.com
As an artist, I can usually be found with Fine Chisel. We make foot-stomping theatre and live music - sometimes for arts venues, but more often for pubs, street, festivals and social spaces.
We're not currently touring any of our theatre projects, but we are available as a band (please send me an email to find out more) and songwriter / performer George Williams is usually up for any kind of antics.
